OUR STORY

We are avid Florida anglers who spend most of our time fishing the morning or late afternoon hours to avoid the mid-day Florida heat.  Fishing at these times, however, means coping with the low angles of the morning and late afternoon sunlight and glare.  We found ourselves shading the sides of our eyes with our hands to find relief from that sun and glare and to maximize the benefits and clarity of our sunglasses (especially while sight fishing).  If you spend time pursuing any outdoor activities in the morning or late afternoon, you know all that light easily finds its way underneath the brim of a hat as well as around and through the sides of your favorite eyewear.

We searched online and in the top sporting goods stores for a simple, stable, "hands-free" solution to all that peripheral light and glare but came up empty.  Determined to shield and protect our eyes, and the sensitive skin around our eyes, we taped small cardboard flaps to both sides of the brim of a fishing hat.  An hour into our next fishing trip we knew the idea of these "peripheral shades" was very special.  As it turned out, the first prototypes for Brim Shades peripheral eye protection had been born.

Countless hours of research and prototyping followed.  The research led to the realization that millions of people who enjoy activities such as fishing, shooting sports, paddle sports, hiking, golf, outdoor photography and even just going for a morning walk can benefit from the protection that comes from simply creating shade beside their eyes.   Advanced prototyping technology  took our simple, cardboard shades and turned them into the versatile, durable, on-demand eye protection that Brim Shades are today.

The Brim Shades adventure has been a fun and exciting one for our family.  From 35 years of salt and freshwater fishing experience to 25 years of military and law enforcement marksman experience, every member has been an important part of the journey.   Our 11 year old daughter even got into the game when she came up with the Brim Shades slogan:

The Sun is no match for the shade!™
